The Little Penguin, often affectionately known as the Fairy Penguin, is the world’s smallest penguin and a much-loved symbol of Australia’s coastal wildlife.
Found along the southern coastlines of Australia, including Tasmania and parts of South Australia and Victoria, Little Penguins live in sandy burrows, rock crevices and coastal vegetation close to the sea.
By day they travel across the ocean hunting for small fish, squid and krill, returning to shore at dusk in their well-known “Penguin Parades” as they waddle back to their nesting sites.
Little Penguins symbolise loyalty, cooperation and devotion, reflecting the strong pair bonds and teamwork they show while raising their young.
When the Little Penguin appears, it can be seen as a gentle reminder of the strength found in partnership, the importance of community, and the comfort of returning home after life’s journeys.
