The Australian Brush Turkey, with its striking black plumage, bright red head and impressive nesting mounds, is one of Australia’s most fascinating and industrious native birds.
Found along the eastern coast of Australia, Brush Turkeys inhabit rainforests, woodlands and suburban gardens, where they spend much of their time scratching through leaf litter in search of insects, seeds and fallen fruit.
Unlike most birds, Brush Turkeys do not sit on their eggs to keep them warm. Instead, the male carefully builds and maintains large compost-like mounds of leaves and soil, using the heat from natural decomposition to incubate the eggs.
Brush Turkeys symbolise dedication, resourcefulness and perseverance, reflecting the remarkable effort and instinct involved in creating and caring for their nests.
When the Brush Turkey appears, it can be seen as a gentle reminder that patience and steady effort can create the foundations needed for new life and growth.
